Title:Workhouse memries revisited April 24
Date:Apr 2024
Original Size: 140 x 135 cm
Notes: Another iteration of the Workhouse memories (revisited) hanging. It has gone through several incarnations. Hanging based on a breakdown print of Southwell Workhouse, mounted on a piece of old wool blanket (much mended, and dyed with acid dyes). The sky section is pieced from worn out collars and cuffs, the printed building is cotton, but covered with secondhand tights to mute the colour. The foreground gardens are pieced from dressmaking fabrics and recycled fabric. This was first exhibited in the MTF exhibition in Nottingham in September 2023, without all the foreground lace, and without the muting tights. The tights were added for a Hall Green Arts Society exhibition in November 2023, and the tatted lace and the sampler at the bottom were added for the RBSA Friends exhibition in January 2024. For the MTF exhibition at the Needle Museum in April 2023 I've added the child's dress, half-knitted socks, and various haberdashery samples
